Technology:
Sumerians had many technological advances. The first was the creation of the wheel. At first the wheel was used by potters to shape clay into pots. Then they discovered that it could be used in a different way; to roll forward. They used this idea to create wooden carts for farmers, and chariots for the army. Before the wheel, people dragged supplies on flat bottomed carts called sledges. The sledges often got stuck in mud, so the wheel definitely made moving items easier. The second technological advancement was the arch. The arch was a U or V shaped structure built above doorways. Arches added strength to buildings, and made the outside beautiful.
